The photo is of a Cornice failure that triggered a R2D2 Loose Wet avalanche. It appears that the lower layers of the Cornice were heated by the rocks below & compromised the stability of the slope. A member of our party also triggered a small Loose Wet avalanche that shmooed its way about 80' in slow fashion before it stopped. This occured on a steep convex roll-over within a narrow gully & entrained the wet surface slush.

It was a very hot morning with no refreeze overnight. Intense sun was rapidly melting the snow, although firm wind scoured areas were found on North facing trees.
