MARCH 13-14, 2015: Snowmobile Avalanche Awareness Clinic at Galena Creek Visitor Center, Mount Rose Highway, Reno, NV

The Bridgeport Avalanche Center has received a California State OHV grant to provide avalanche education specific to snowmobile users in avalanche terrain. This means that there will be three FREE Avalanche Awareness with Field Day clinics offered this winter. Each clinic will consist of a two hour evening classroom session followed the next day by a full day field session.

Topics covered will include: how to read and understand the avalanche advisory, avalanche terrain recognition, the affect of weather on avalanche hazard, recognition of signs of snowpack instability, decision making skills for riding in avalanche terrain, and basic avalanche companion rescue procedures.

Participants in the field session will each need a reliable snowmobile and basic mountain riding skills.  A modern avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, and helmet are required equipment for the field session and must be provided by the participant.

Space is limited to 8 students per field session and registration for the field session is mandatory.  Classroom sessions are unlimited - if you are placed on the "Wait List" upon registration, you are welcome to attend the classroom session, but you may not be able to attend the field session unless there are cancellations.  Attendance of the classroom session is required to participate in the field session, regardless of registration.  If you registered for the field session but did not attend the classroom session, your place will be given away to a student chosen from the classroom session.
