More detailed information about the snowpack:

Winter has made a return to the area, so don’t turn off those avalanche brains yet!  Today my partner and I traveled into the Sonora Pass area for an afternoon tour and observed 6 inches of new snow paired with very strong winds and poor visibility.  Wind directions varied from SW and NE throughout the tour at this location.  Evidence of wind drifted snow was prominent even below treeline, which kept us off steep terrain features in these areas.  We did observe some signs of instability such as cracking under-ski within the new storm snow.  Despite the new accumulation, we could still feel the crust under our skis in most places we traveled, and this new snow was easily sliding off this slick crust.  Overall, today was a good day to take a step back and keep the terrain simple.
