Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Searched for the deepest & driest snowpack I could find. Found 2mm surface hoar along with crust/ facet combos below. Crust are slowly facetting out & rounding facet layers have gained strength. This particular snowpack is isolated to North aspects & not representative of overall conditions. Spatial variability of surface snow conditions is extreme. Icy conditions have lingered well into the afternoon. Below the Deadman Creek crossing on Leavitt Lake Rd there is almost a mile of dirt & blue ice, it's complicated…

Any other comments about the observation or links to outside pages that have more info on the observation:

The snowmobiling conditions at the BWRA are saddening. Bare surfaces are melting out everywhere, & without any snow in the forecast things don't look good for staying open much longer. 47cm (18.5") snow depth @ Leavitt Junction snowstake (not representative). 42cm (16.5") in critical habitat around Leavitt Lake. It is very difficult to keep your snowmobile cool enough on the packed surfaces & bare asphalt or dirt roads. Keep updated for our status report @ bridgeportavalachecenter.org
