More detailed information about the snowpack: 

A new 10cm had fallen overnight. The most notable layers were a stout rain crust with melt grains held together by ice bonds below it. The heavy rains associated with the AR have created this firm layer that is doing a great job of bridging. The snowpack in this location was 225cm. I performed a PST, ECT, & a CT; all of which gave me no instability info. The concern remains with the surface layer of new snow & its ability to react as a Wind Slab.

It was cold with a North wind that was light. I had my digital thermometer freeze due to -12C (10F). It wasn't snowing as I began my snow pit but it came in while I was working. For some time it was snowing at a S1-S2 rate with wind broken particles & rime.
