Today we rode to the Sardine Falls area of the BWRA. Snow conditions remained variable with a slick knife hard surface crust throughout much of our tour even on solar aspects. In the snowpack, faceting is taking shape in the top 30 cm’s of snow on northerly aspects around 9000 feet. We will be tracking this faceting process especially as the next wave of precipitation hits our forecast area, which could be weeks from now.  The mid-January sun did not have much effect on the surface snow conditions today and traveling with your ‘sharps kit’ is recommended.
