More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Snow cover on the north facing aspect above Red Lake was highly variable both in snow distribution and surface texture. North facing slopes held only small pockets of snow to dig in and travel on. Blowing snow was observed being transported in the alpine above our observation area through the afternoon.

Taking a look into the snowpack structure revealed sugary faceted snow in the shallow snowpack. Probing depth varied from 30-90cm.  Snow surfaces varied widely including edge able crust, unconsolidated old snow, and small areas of wind compacted snow.

Moderate Southwest wind was constant today with periods of stronger gusts intermixed. Blowing snow was observed stripping unconsolidated snow off of windward aspects.
